This policy applies to all users of Tamil AI products — individuals, families, and community members who engage with Tamil AI's platform, mobile applications, website tamil.ai, and related services. Tamil AI's products serve Tamil individuals and families across various age groups and contexts — from cultural learning to community engagement to language technology.

If you are a parent or guardian using Tamil AI on behalf of a family member: this policy explains your rights and controls over that data.

If you are using Tamil AI for your own learning or cultural engagement: this policy explains how we handle your personal data.

What Tamil AI collects depends on whether you use the free tier or the subscribed tier.

Pronunciation practice — where your child speaks Tamil and receives feedback — is only available in the subscribed tier. This is a privacy decision, not just a commercial one.

By making pronunciation a subscribed feature, we create a deliberate, explicit consent checkpoint. When a parent subscribes and enables voice features, they are consciously choosing to allow their child to use pronunciation practice. Free tier users are never asked to share voice data — ever.

The technical process when your child speaks Tamil:

The accuracy score — a number — is retained to show parents their child's pronunciation improvement trajectory. The voice recording that produced the score is not retained under any circumstances.

You can disable voice features at any time from your parent account settings. This immediately stops all voice processing for your child's account. Existing accuracy scores remain visible in your progress dashboard unless you request full data deletion.

These are absolute commitments — not subject to exceptions, commercial pressures, or policy changes without explicit notice to you.

We use the data we collect for one purpose: making Tamil AI work for your family.

  Learning progress tracking — lesson completion records, pronunciation scores, and vocabulary progress are used to show you your child's improvement trajectory in the parent progress dashboard.

  Spaced repetition scheduling — vocabulary progress data is used by Tamil AI's SM-2 spaced repetition algorithm to schedule which words your child reviews and when. This happens automatically to optimize long-term retention.

  Pronunciation scoring — voice data is processed in real time to generate pronunciation accuracy feedback for your child. Audio is deleted immediately after scoring.

  Product improvement — aggregate, unlinked data about how families use Tamil AI helps us identify which content works well and what needs improvement. This aggregate data contains no personal identifiers.

Tamil AI shares data with a minimal number of third-party service providers, strictly as necessary to operate the product. We do not share data with advertisers, data brokers, or any party that would use it for commercial purposes unrelated to Tamil AI.

All third-party service providers are bound by data processing agreements that prohibit them from using Tamil AI's data for any purpose other than providing their specific service.

Tamil AI will disclose data if required by applicable law — for example, in response to a lawful court order. If permitted by law, we will notify you before disclosing your data.

Tamil AI's platform serves Tamil families — including family members of all ages. Where Tamil AI's products are used by or on behalf of minors, we apply the highest level of data protection and comply with applicable children's data protection laws across our key markets. Tamil AI's voice features require explicit parental consent before any family member under 18 uses them.

Parental consent architecture: Tamil AI's product is designed so that all meaningful data collection — account creation, learning data sync, voice feature access — requires a parent to take a deliberate action. Children cannot create accounts, enable voice features, or make purchases independently. Parents control everything.

Free tier families: your child's learning progress is stored only on your device. Uninstalling Tamil AI deletes this data entirely. There is no account data on Tamil AI's servers to access, correct, or delete.

When you close your account, all personal data is deleted within 14 days. We send a confirmation email when deletion is complete.

Tamil AI implements technical and organizational measures to protect your family's data.

No security system is perfectly secure. If Tamil AI experiences a data breach that affects your family's personal information, we will notify you within 72 hours of becoming aware of the breach, consistent with applicable law.

Tamil AI serves Tamil diaspora families across Australia, Singapore, the USA, the UK, Malaysia, and globally. Tamil AI Pvt Ltd is registered in Tamil Nadu, India. Data may be processed on servers located in India and other jurisdictions where Tamil AI's infrastructure providers operate.

When data is transferred internationally, Tamil AI ensures it is protected by appropriate safeguards consistent with the data protection laws of your country. For families in the EU and UK, data transfers are conducted under standard contractual clauses or equivalent mechanisms.

Regardless of where your family is located, the privacy commitments in this policy apply fully. Tamil AI will never use international data transfer as a reason to apply lower privacy standards to any family's data.

Tamil AI will update this privacy policy as the product evolves. When we make material changes — changes that affect what data we collect, how we use it, or your rights — we will:
