Tamil AI is a technology platform incorporating AI across various dimensions of Tamil language and culture. We collect only what we need to make our products work. We never store voice data beyond processing. We never sell data. We never show advertisements. Users are in complete control of their data at all times.

Tamil AI Pvt Ltd is a technology company registered in Tamil Nadu, India. We build Tamil AI — a platform incorporating AI across various dimensions of Tamil language, culture, and heritage. Tamil AI applies technology to Tamil learning, cultural transmission, linguistic preservation, and community connection.
We are built from Rasipuram, Tamil Nadu. We are founded by Tamil people who care deeply about Tamil cultural transmission across generations.

2. Who This Policy Applies To
This privacy policy applies to all users of Tamil AI — the mobile application, the website tamil.ai, and any related services.
If you are a parent or guardian using Tamil AI on behalf of a family member: this policy explains your rights and controls over that data. If you are using Tamil AI for your own learning or cultural engagement: this policy explains how we handle your personal data.
3. What We Collect
What Tamil AI collects depends on whether you use the free tier or the subscribed tier.

4. Children's Voice Data — Our Commitment
Tamil AI never stores your child's voice recordings. Audio is captured only during pronunciation practice, processed server-side to generate an accuracy score, and immediately deleted. This happens in seconds. Nothing is retained. This is architecturally enforced — not just policy.
Pronunciation practice — where your child speaks Tamil and receives feedback — is only available in the subscribed tier. This is a privacy decision, not just a commercial one. By making pronunciation a subscribed feature, we create a deliberate, explicit consent checkpoint. Free tier users are never asked to share voice data — ever.
The technical process when your child speaks Tamil:
- Audio captured on device during pronunciation attempt
- Audio transmitted encrypted to Tamil AI servers
- Pronunciation engine processes audio and generates accuracy score
- Score returned to app — displayed as feedback
- Audio file deleted from servers immediately
- Only the accuracy score is retained — linked to parent account
You can disable voice features at any time from your parent account settings.
5. What We Never Do
- Sell your data or your child's data to any third party — ever
- Use your child's data for advertising — in Tamil AI or anywhere else
- Store your child's voice recordings — audio is processed and deleted immediately
- Allow your child to communicate with strangers — no chat, no social features
- Show advertisements — to your child or to you in Tamil AI
- Collect your child's location — Tamil AI does not access location data
- Collect data from free tier users beyond device-local storage
- Share data with third parties except as strictly necessary to operate pronunciation scoring
- Collect contact lists, photos, files, or any data beyond what is described in Section 3
- Retain audio recordings under any circumstances — including for improving our systems
6. How We Use Data
We use the data we collect for one purpose: making Tamil AI work for your family.
- Parent account management — your email address is used to maintain your account and send subscription-related communications only.
- Learning progress tracking — lesson completion, pronunciation scores, and vocabulary progress power the parent dashboard.
- Spaced repetition scheduling — vocabulary progress data drives Tamil AI's SM-2 spaced repetition algorithm.
- Pronunciation scoring — voice data is processed in real time for feedback, then deleted immediately.
- Product improvement — aggregate, unlinked data helps us identify what works. Contains no personal identifiers.
8. Children's Privacy — COPPA and International Standards
- USA — COPPA: Tamil AI does not collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent.
- EU and UK — GDPR-K: heightened protection consistent with GDPR Article 8 and the UK Children's Code.
- Australia — Privacy Act: compliant with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
- Singapore — PDPA: compliant with Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act.
- India — DPDP Act: compliant with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023.
Children cannot create accounts, enable voice features, or make purchases independently. Parents control everything.
9. Your Rights

- Right to access — a copy of all data we hold, within 14 days.
- Right to deletion — processed within 14 days, permanent.
- Right to correction — we correct inaccurate data.
- Right to restrict processing — disable voice features any time.
- Right to data portability — export learning progress as CSV or JSON.
- Right to withdraw consent — cancel and delete your account any time.
10. How Long We Keep Data

11. Security
- All data transmitted between the app and Tamil AI servers is encrypted using TLS
- Account data is encrypted at rest
- Voice data transmission is encrypted end-to-end
- Access to production data is restricted to essential personnel only
- Payment processing is handled by certified payment providers
If Tamil AI experiences a data breach affecting your family's personal information, we will notify you within 72 hours of becoming aware.
12. International Families
Tamil AI serves Tamil diaspora families across Australia, Singapore, the USA, the UK, Malaysia, and globally. Data may be processed on servers located in India and other jurisdictions. For families in the EU and UK, data transfers are conducted under standard contractual clauses or equivalent mechanisms.
13. Changes to This Policy
When we make material changes, we will notify subscribed families by email at least 14 days before the change takes effect, display a notice in the app, and update the “Last Updated” date.
